The Municipality of Tehran has approved the Organization and Promotion of Tourism Facilities Plan (Tourism Plan) during a meeting on 20 April 2016. The provisions of the Tourism Plan aim to promote tourism and strengthen the industry’s infrastructure by facilitating investment conditions and granting subsidies to the private sector.
Under this plan, the Government seeks to promote the development of hotels and recreational and touristic facilities in Tehran by attracting investments from the private sector both foreign and domestic for the next 3 years.
Among the facilitating conditions introduced under the Tourism Plan, there are provisions allowing more lenient payment options for the planning permit. Iranian land laws allow builders to change the use of estates from residential to trade and commercial use, and since commercial estates yield profits higher than other industries municipalities are more than willing to grant permission for a conversion.
